Humans, like other animals, make an elaborate effort to ‘sniff’ other people with whom they get in contact. There are many reasons why this is being done, with the main reason being “what’s in it for me’.
Engaging in a discussion with someone we haven’t had an association before is challenging as our full set of senses are involved in a process of exploration, classification and categorization. While we exchange in a dual of introductory comments we observe our opponent and attempt to slot him or her into a recognized pattern we have already formulated before. These precious opening statements made early on, coupled with input we receive from our other senses determine fairly early on the faith of the newly formed relationship.
As it is quite likely that in some cases (which I cannot quantify) the first impression we receive is flawed, I would like to do my share and assist you, should we ever meet in the future, to clearly figure out what I am like, and enable you to calibrate your communication strategy accordingly.
According to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) I have a INTJ Personality Type. What does it mean?
As a reminder, the MBTI preferences indicate the differences in people’s based on the following:
- How they focus their attention or get their energy (Extroversion or Introversion)
- How they perceive or take in information (Sensing or Intuition)
- How they prefer to make decisions (Thinking or Feeling)
- How they orient themselves to the external world (Judgement or Perception)
As a INTJ I have the following preferences:
- I prefer introversion to extroversion.
- I prefer intuition to sensing
- I prefer thinking to feeling
- I prefer judgement to perception
The point of exposing my personality type is twofold:
- I would like to encourage you to examine your own personality type and, consequently, appreciate the impact this has on your interaction with others; and
- Appreciate the fact that when you communicate with me it is equally your responsibility to adapt your communication style in order to achieve a win-win outcome.
BTW, input “www.quantmleap.com/blog/” in http://www.typealyzer.com/ and you’ll get the following result:
INTJ – The Scientists
The long-range thinking and individualistic type. They are especially good at looking at almost anything and figuring out a way of improving it – often with a highly creative and imaginative touch. They are intellectually curious and daring, but might be physically hesitant to try new things.
The Scientists enjoy theoretical work that allows them to use their strong minds and bold creativity. Since they tend to be so abstract and theoretical in their communication they often have a problem communicating their visions to other people and need to learn patience and use concrete examples. Since they are extremely good at concentrating they often have no trouble working alone.
Looking forward to our next interaction.
Think about it!
